Youth programs, such as camping and sports, are vital parts of our community engagement. In the recent past, we hosted a Youth Leadership Training Programme in collaboration with the Australian Multicultural Foundation. Special programs for sisters include Islamic education classes tailored for reverts, creating a supportive environment for spiritual growth. You may follow the community WhatsApp group for regular updates on different ongoing activities.
Toowoomba is a beacon of unity and respect, fostering harmony among people of all faiths and none. The Garden City Mosque actively participates in interfaith events to promote understanding and collaboration. The mosque is an active member of the Multifaith Working Groupand the Abrahamic Faith Group initiative, fostering cooperation among diverse faith traditions. We also collaborate with the USQ Multifaith Centre, supporting Muslim students and staff at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ).
The Garden City Mosque actively fosters understanding and respect among diverse communities. We also support various multicultural initiatives, promoting inclusion and dignity for all. Since 2014, we have hosted the Annual International Food Festival and Mosque Open Day, welcoming thousands to experience Muslim culture through food, mosque tours, and dialogue. These efforts reflect our commitment to strengthening community ties and celebrating Australia’s rich multicultural identity.
Even before purchasing the mosque property, we met with our neighbours to ensure their concerns were addressed and their peace preserved. We regularly invite them to mosque events, sharing meals and conversations over afternoon tea.
We also take practical steps to maintain harmony, such as avoiding car parking in the nearby cul-de-sac to prevent congestion. Our neighbours have consistently shown goodwill, with no complaints about mosque activities.
Our Memorandum of Understanding with Islamic Relief Australia enhances our ability to provide humanitarian aid and community support. Through this partnership, we: 1) Deliver humanitarian relief projects locally and internationally; 2) Prepare grant applications for initiatives like the Happy Living in Toowoomba project; 3) Support various charitable activities to uplift the community.
Our relationship with St. Anthony’s Church exemplifies interfaith cooperation. Leaders from both the Catholic and Anglican churches, including the Bishops of Toowoomba, are frequent visitors to our mosque, reflecting strong mutual respect and friendship.
